Two men were found on campus with a vehicle containing stolen stereo equipment Thursday morning, according to an IU Police Department report. \nBloomington residents Daniel Lane, 21, and Charles Starks, 23, were arrested for vehicle theft and possession of stolen items after IUPD officers found them in the Campus View Apartments parking lot near a car containing car stereo equipment and two checkbooks. At least one of the car stereos and both checkbooks had been identified as stolen goods, said IUPD Lt. Jerry Minger.\nAccording to police reports, IUPD officer Andrew Stephenson noticed Lane and Starks at 2:20 a.m. Thursday morning exhibiting suspicious behavior sitting outside a 1997 Saturn in the parking lot. Stephenson approached the men on foot and questioned them about why they were in the apartment lot so late. \nOfficers arrived to check the surrounding parking lots for signs of vandalized vehicles as Stephenson searched the Saturn. He came up with three car stereos, an amplifier, subwoofers, two checkbooks and various other items. Officers checked the items with Bloomington Police Department officers to find if any had been reported stolen. One of the checkbooks belonged to Curt Bennett, who had reported his Jeep stolen earlier that day, according to BPD. \nBPD officers brought Bennett to the scene at 4:30 a.m. In addition to his checkbook, he also identified one of the car stereos as his property. The stolen Jeep, for which the men were arrested, was found at High Speed Tire, 319 S. Madison St., Minger said. \nOfficers are currently trying to locate owners of the other stolen goods, Minger said. The second checkbook found at the scene was reported missing to a bank, according to IUPD, but the owner was not available for contact. \nLane and Starks were admitted to the Monroe County Jail at 6:30 a.m Thursday, jail officials said.
