IU Foundation appoints new chief

Former director of Kuali project takes position

The IU Foundation has a new Chief Information Officer. Donald Grinstead started his new job on July 1. As CIO for the Foundation, Grinstead will be responsible for overseeing the implementation and use of new technologies. \nIU Foundation Vice President Jim Perin called Grinstead " a proven performer."\n"His experience at IU will enable him to formulate a vision and a plan for information technology that takes the Foundation to the next level of service to IU," he said.\nGrinstead's appointment comes after 20 years in Information Technology at IU. Previously he worked for University Information Technology Services and was the director of the Kuali Project, a multi-university venture to develop open-source financial management software for academic institutions. \nBrad Wheeler, the dean of Information Technology for IU-Bloomington said Grinstead was instrumental in developing the Kuali Project.\n"I think it demonstrates his ability to help build consensus and execute to get things done," he said.\nThe IU Foundation manages the University's endowment which totals more than $1 billion. The organization is also responsible for fundraising and administration of the roughly $100 million in contributions from private donations. IU ranks in the nation's top 2% of universities for the support it receives from such contributions. The size of its endowment ranks in the top fifteen for universities nation-wide.
