Heading into the first tournament of the spring season, the men's golf team wanted to avoid any rustiness from a three-month break in tournament play. After one round of play, the Hoosiers looked ready to contend for their second tournament victory of the season.\nHowever, after a shaky second round, the Hoosiers show signs of inconsistent play because of such a long layoff. \nThe team added 13 strokes off its opening round four-under 284 in the second round of the Hyatt Plantation Intercollegiate tournament. The team maintained its fourth place position in the 10-team field despite the second-round score of nine-over 297. Inconsistent greens made putting conditions difficult during day two.\n"We stuck the ball well today," said IU coach Mike Mayer. "We just were not able to put the ball in the hole and the higher scores reflected it."\nSenior captain Jeff Overton fired his second straight two-under par 70, which is good enough for fifth place individually. Overton was the only Hoosier who didn't experience a second-round letdown from the first-round scores.\n"We were disappointed with the way we played today," Mayer said. "However, we will come out tomorrow and play much better"
