IU opens lactation room in Indiana Memorial Union

The IU Office of Women's Affairs worked with the Indiana Memorial Union in building a fully-equipped lactation room for faculty, staff and students. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. today.\nThe room is located within the women's restroom, next to the Frangipani Room on the Mezzanine Floor of the IMU. The room contains a hospital-grade electric breast pump, which is multi-user and can accept personal kits bought by each user. For safety the room also has a combination lock, changing station, a comfortable chair and work table.\nIn order to use the room women must contact OWA for the code to the door and information on where to purchase breast pump kits. IU is not the only school in the Big Ten to accommodate mothers. The University of Michigan offers 14 campus lactation rooms while the University of Iowa offers 16. \nFor more information on the lactation room, contact employee relations at 856-6047.
