Around The Campus

ArtsWeek celebration paints different picture\nEach year for ArtsWeek, IU showcases many different types of art. However, this year it's doing something never done before: IU is going to show how the finished artwork is created. \nThis year's theme for ArtsWeek 2005 is "Exploring the Creative Process." This special week will allow audiences to view not only the many different types of art that people living in Bloomington have to offer but also the process they go through when creating their masterpieces. ArtsWeek is now in its 21st year.

Childhood obesity fight begins in schools\nA report from IU calls for school children and adolescents to exercise more and for school vending machines to offer more nutritious food. The report came from IUB's Center for Evaluation and Education Policy.\nThe report stated that obesity cannot just contribute to serious health problems in school children but also impede academic achievement, increase chances of being bullied and carry dire financial implications.\nAccording to the policy brief, school officials face significant challenges in helping their student population become healthier. Obstacles include vending machines and snack bars stocked with foods of minimal nutritional value that not only compete with the existing USDA-regulated lunch program but also are promoted through attractive financial offers from outside sources; a lack of resources for quality physical education programs; and demand for higher student academic achievement in core subjects.
