Twenty incoming freshmen and one current IU student were announced as recipients of the Wells Scholarship Friday.\nSince 1990, IU has offered the Wells Scholarship in honor of former Chancellor and IU President Herman B Wells. The prestigious scholarship awards 18 to 22 students each year full tuition at IU for four years based solely on merit. In addition to full tuition, recipients receive a four-year living stipend, an optional semester studying abroad and the opportunity to apply for research funds.\nIn order to continue participation in the program, Wells Scholars must accumulate a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester and maintain a 3.4 grade point average. Scholars are also admitted to the Honors College.\nIncoming freshmen are eligible for the scholarship only after being nominated by their high schools. Many Indiana high schools and select high schools from other states nominate two seniors each year for the award, and Wells Scholars are selected from these nominees.\nIU junior and senior recipients are nominated by members of the faculty to join the Wells Scholars in their classes.\nRecipients for the 2004-05 school year are:
