Buskirk-Chumley holds film festival\nThe 42nd Annual Ann Arbor Film Festival Tour makes a stop at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater, 114 E. Kirkwood Ave., at 7 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday. A celebration of independent and experimental film and video, the internationally known film festival screens more than 100 films during six days in March. Select films from the festival then tour college classrooms, auditoriums, art theaters and museums throughout the country. The Buskirk-Chumley will screen 22 of these films this weekend. Tickets are on sale at the Sunrise Box Office at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater for $5.
Poetry comes to Runcible Spoon\nPoets Wesley K. Thomas, Patricia C. Coleman and Andy Alphonse will do a poetry reading from 6:50 to 8:45 p.m. Friday at the Runcible Spoon, 412 W. Sixth St. The reading is sponsored by the Bloomington Area Arts Council. A member of the Navajo Nation, Thomas is an assistant professor of anthropology and international studies. Coleman is the co-producer of the Runcible Spoon Poetry Series and founder of the Green Dove Network. Alphonse teaches high school math in the Bloomington school system. The reading will also feature Bill Whitefeather playing Native American Flute. Individuals will have the opportunity to share their own poetry after the reading when the cafe holds an open mike poetry session.
'Starsky and Hutch' plays outside\nThe Union Board presents an outdoor showing of "Starsky and Hutch" at 9 p.m. Saturday in Kinsey Hollow, the grassy field behind the Office of Admissions at 801 N. Jordan Ave. Free popcorn and soft drinks will be offered at the event. The film spoofs the hit 1970s television series with Ben Stiller as David Starsky and Owen Wilson as Ken Hutchinson. The two police officers get tough assignments from their boss and rely on an omniscient street informer named Huggy Bear, played by Snoop Dogg, for inside tips. They race to crime scenes in a souped-up 1974 Ford Torino hot read. In the film, the two cops reminisce about their first big case which involved a former college campus drug dealer, played by Vince Vaughn, who went on to become a white collar criminal.
College Mall holds concert, free samples\nCollege Mall will host an IU Tailgate Party noon to 5 p.m. Saturday in Center Court. The party includes a concert featuring a performance by Bodeup. Participants will have the opportunity to meet the IU Hoosiers from noon to 4 p.m. and purchase their IU athletic tickets at the event. Coke, Chick-fil-A and Pizza di Roma will all offer samples of their products at Saturday's event.
