Professor honored with new title\nProfessor Madan Puri was named the College of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Research Scholar by COAS Dean Kumble Subbaswamy. Only three researchers have been honored with such publication in the last 20 years, according to the publisher.\nSubbaswamy said in a statement he was proud to attend an honorary dinner for Puri Feb. 20 in recognition of his works being published.\n"It was my great pleasure to honor Madan Puri as College of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Research Scholar," Subbaswamy said. "This rare designation is reserved for those who have become world leaders in a field while on the College faculty and whose collected works are published because of their archival value."\nInterim Chancellor Ken Gros Louis said Puri stands as a leader in his field. \n"Madan Puri is certainly one of the premier statisticians in the world," he said. "The fact that his selected works fill three huge volumes, and the fact that they were reprinted at all, speaks to his national and international reputation and visibility. He has put Indiana University on the map in statistics, and for that the campus and university will be eternally grateful"
