"Who needs reasons when you've got heroin?"

The case for "Trainspotting: Director's Cut Collector's Edition" is a bit misleading. The advertised "uncut" version reintegrates the two seconds of sex and drug-use into the film that were removed to obtain an R rating (way to go MPAA!). Aside from that, this DVD is the definitive edition of a brilliant British film.\n"Trainspotting" is toted as a heroin flick, but to dismiss this simply as a drug film is a crime. While smack plays a huge role in the lives of the characters, the film also focuses on friendship, loyalty and social standing. Renton (Ewan McGregor) celebrates and loathes his addiction while juggling his future and relationships, creating a great character arc. The memorable supporting cast shines by creating funny, colorful characters that enliven the already vibrant film. Combine that with adventurous directing and possibly the best soundtrack in cinema history, and you've got one of the best films of the '90s.\nThe extras are plentiful, with deleted scenes, commentary, retrospectives and more. Some of the special features can kind of drag, but you can't expect the most outstanding extras from a film that was made before DVD was even a twinkle in our eyes.\nNo DVD collection is complete without "Trainspotting." Pick it up.
