The IU Campus Bus Service is offering free service this summer to students with a valid student ID as part of the transportation fee paid by IU students. \nThis is the fourth summer this program has been in effect, Director of Campus Bus Service James Hosler said.\n"The transportation fee was passed by the board four years ago and as part of what they approved, they made the transportation at half rate in the summer," Hosler said. "That money funds free access of our entire system during the summer as opposed to the school year when all it covers is the Express route."\nBecause the entire bus service is available to students at no charge, the Stadium Express route has been eliminated for the summer. The buses that are running will be on reduced schedules.\nHosler said only four buses will run on two routes during summer sessions as opposed to 22 buses on five routes during the fall and spring semesters.\n"There are less students on campus, plus the dorms are closed, so we've never run full service in the summer because there aren't enough people here to justify the costs," he said.\nThe only buses in service will be the "A" and "E" routes. Hosler said these routes will best cater to students that stay in Bloomington for the summer.\n"We run the 'A' route, which comes out of the stadium for people who are commuting from off-campus housing, and the 'E' route which services the married housing area and Eigenmann (Hall). If there are any students living on campus that's where they'll be," Hosler said.\nFor more information on Campus Bus Service or to check summer bus schedules, students can visit the Campus Bus Service Web site at www.iubus.indiana.edu .
