President Bush will address the nation tonight in the first of several major speeches that will hopefully detail his strategy regarding the June 30 transfer of sovereignty in Iraq. Here's what we hope he will say.\nThe president should not be hesitant about being specific. This is a situation which does not warrant vagueness. Generalities such as "stay the course," "tough times ahead" and "our resolve is firm" will not substitute for a clear strategy. Bush must provide significant details to show he is in control of the situation, and that we are not merely on cruise control in our foreign policy. If the Bush administration feels the details of this approach are inconsequential to relay to the public, we heartily disagree.\nWithout question, his speech will have political undertones to reassure the doubtful. Reassurances are helpful, especially during instability. But we believe the most reassuring thing the president can do now is show a clear, cogent plan, outlining exactly who will take over sovereignty and what kind of American military presence will still be required.\nIt's time the administration levels with us. Americans actually care about what happens with our dollars, our soldiers and our positioning in the world. We are getting restless. Recent polls reflect that. Hopefully this administration understands our sentiments, or at the very least, polling data.
