Special exhibitions at the IU Art Museum\nThe IU Art Museum has two special exhibitions on display through May 30. Over 200 objects -- many of which have never been displayed before -- are currently being shown in "Egypt after Alexander: Art under the Greeks and Romans." With large sculptures of royalty in marble, basalt, granite and limestone, coins with portraits of Ptolemies, a rare group of gem portraits and jewelry samples, the collection emphasizes artistic continuity and change after Alexander's conquest in 332 B.C.\nAlso special to the art museum this month is "Swimming to the Afterlife: A Fantasy Coffin from Ghana," an exhibit of a rare coffin in the form of a 10-foot pink fish. The coffin is a contemporary African art form in which coastal natives in Ghana, West Africa, honored deceased loved ones with burial in "designer" or fantasy coffins. With innovative colors and shapes, these coffins relate to the deceased's professional status or accomplishments.
