Music School incidents continue

$500 cello bow stolen; previous missing item reappears

Last week, while a cello bow, worth approximately $500 was stolen from the fourth floor of the Music Annex, a missing violin stolen between March 7 and March 9 mysteriously reappeared. \nThe cello bow was a William-Seifert made of dark brown wood and was octagonal in shape, according to IU Police Department records.\n"(The owner) left (the bow) in the hallway and went to class," said IUPD Lt. Jerry Minger. "He came back and it was just gone."\nMinger said officers are trying everything they can to prevent these thefts, but students must also help.\n"The one problem that seems to be ongoing is that in this case, even with all of the publicity of all the incidents, people are leaving their items unattended," Minger said. "When you leave it lying out, the police can't protect against that."\nMinger said the violin rented from the Music School by senior Yu Mi Ko reappeared back in the locker it was stolen from.\n"The keys to the lockers are managed very strictly," Minger said. "When we asked who had access to the keys, we were told the only people who have access is who the key was issued to, in this case the complainant, and the holder of the master keys, Wilber England."\nMinger said IUPD is still actively investigating all of the unsolved thefts.\n"If there is anything anyone thinks can be done, we would be more than willing to work something out and speak with them," Minger said. "I can say, without reservation, we are doing absolutely everything possible given the resources we have"
