Gallery presents 10th tea party

For almost 80 years, the Brown County Art Gallery at 1 Artist Dr. in Nashville, Ind., has been dedicated to education in the arts, cultural advancement and the creation of a greater incentive for the development of creative art and its presentation to the public.\nAt 2 p.m. Sunday, the Gallery will uphold that tradition by holding its 10th-annual Victorian Tea Party to raise funds for maintenance and upkeep of the art gallery. \nThe event will feature a wide assortment of hot teas along with finger foods, sandwiches, punch and scones. It will be held in a traditional tea setting and door prizes like cups and saucers, tea pots and gift certificates will be given out, said Sheryl Eyed, a volunteer for the Art Gallery who has had a hand in organizing entertainment functions for the last 20 years.\nAlong with enjoying tea, there will be a speaker on quilting present at the tea party, and everyone in attendance will receive a quilted bag.\nWhile Eyed said in the past, the majority in attendance are older females, she said it is open to everyone and she encourages the younger crowd to join. \n"It is a very nice experience. It's a chance to experience an elegance and etiquette of the tea that a lot of people don't get the chance to do today," said Eyed. "People get dressed up just like they used to in the '50s and '60s."\nDue to lack of space in the Gallery, the crowd is limited to approximately 100 to 115 guests. Reservations must be made by calling the Gallery at (812) 988-4609 prior to the date of the event. The cost is $15.95 per person, which includes tea and snacks, the quilted bag and a chance at winning a door prize.\n"I think the tradition of 'taking tea' has been overlooked in American culture," freshman Jessica Ferri said. "Just taking that time out in your day to think or spend time with friends or family"
