Backpacks stolen in Jackson Heights

With almost three weeks of school left, two backpacks were stolen out of unlocked cars in Jackson Heights Thursday night. Junior Cara Cline reported the theft of her backpack Thursday night at about 10:30 p.m.\nSophomore Michelle Spurlin was at home when Cline called and told her to check her car. \n"I went to my car to check, and I realized my bookbag was missing, too," Spurlin said. She reported the theft at about 10:45 p.m. that evening.\nCFC, Inc., the apartments' management, called Spurlin Friday morning to tell her they had found two backpacks. \n"It was in the creek with the neighbor's backpack," Spurlin said. \nPens and pencils were missing out of Cline's bag; however, everything else was still there. \n"They didn't even take my debit card," said Spurlin. \nCline had left her car for 10 minutes when her bag and a sweater were stolen. \nCline and Spurlin were surprised by the theft. \n"I don't know what to say. It was irritating because it's the end of the semester and everything was in my backpack," Cline said. \nWhen Spurlin's bookbag was returned, Cline's ID was in there along with a hairbrush and a glove. The owner of the hairbrush and glove are unknown.\n"It sucks because we have only three weeks of school left and all my projects, handouts and notes were in my bag, and now they are soaked," Spurlin said. \nAs of press time, a call made to BPD had not been returned for comment.
