It's about that time again for many college students to make plans for their future, and look for internships. \nIU's Internship Fair 2004 is rapidly approaching Thursday at Alumni Hall in the Indiana Memorial Union. The event begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m.\nAccording to the IU Events Calendar, representatives from more than 70 different organizations, who will be accepting resumes and applications, will be present at the Internship Fair. Organizations such as Fripp Island Resort, Neiman Marcus, Teach for America, WXIN-59 and WTTV 4 from Indianapolis will visit campus.\nSenior Adam Lueken is a newcomer to the Internship Fair and is looking forward to meeting potential employers.\n"I'm taking advantage of all these companies coming to campus for a day," Lueken said. "The fair will be at my convenience because I can just walk to the IMU between my classes and turn my resume in to the companies I want to pursue for internships."\nFripp Island Resort, on an island off the coast of South Carolina, will make its second appearance at IU's Internship Fair, and will be approaching its third year hiring interns on the island.\nSophomore Chris Bauer is working the Fripp Island Resort booth at this year's Internship Fair with his father, Steve, who owns the resort. Chris has helped his father hire interns for the island in the past, and will be doing so again this year.\nChris said the Internship Fair only consists of filling out an application, turning in your resume and meeting potential employers. This is an optimal time for students to get their names across to the organization's representatives and make a good first impression. After the first day, the employees narrow down the applications and call students back for a follow-up interview.\n"Last year we called back potential applicants after the first day of the Internship Fair and spent the next day interviewing them," Chris said.\nLast year's Internship Fair went pretty well for Fripp Island Resort -- almost half of their applications came from IU.\n"From the Internship Fair alone, we accumulated about 20 applications," Chris said.\nThe owner said he suggests everyone who plans to visit the fair should bring an updated resume and a cover letter for the first day, and professional attire is strongly advise if called back for a personal interview.\n"We are hoping to hire at least 20 interns at this year's Internship Fair. Hopefully we'll hire around 40 to 50 interns altogether for the Island," Chris said.\nFripp Island Resort will begin interviewing for summer internships beginning in May and ending in August at this year's Internship Fair.\n-- Contact staff writer Janet Nguyen at jangyuen@indiana.edu.
