Fresh-faced cast has winning touch

Director Robert Luketic has followed up his box office hit Legally Blonde with the sweet and refreshing romantic comedy, Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!. This film is by no means a love story that will stand the test of time, but it satisfies the desires of an audience that loves romantic comedies. \nSmall-town girl, Rosalee Futch (Kate Bosworth), has an obsession with Hollywood's most famous and desirable celebrity, Tad Hamilton (Josh Duhamel). Hamilton possesses the perfect image of the boy next door, that is until it's tarnished by his bad boy antics. To correct this, his over-the-top manager (Sean Hayes) and agent (Nathan Lane) come up with a scheme to revive his gentler image by setting up a contest to win a date with the star. Futch wins the said date, and the heart of Hamilton. This is where the love triangle begins. Futch's best friend, Pete Monash (Topher Grace of "That '70s Show"), is secretly in love with her. However, her fascination with Hamilton blinds her of a love that has been there her whole life. \nThe fresh-faced actors are charismatic and enjoyable to watch. Bosworth brings out the heart of this film with her gentle nature. While Grace's sarcasm is amusing, it's his sincerity and love for Bosworth's character that makes him believable. Duhamel looks the part, but his performance is overshadowed by Grace's. Lane and Hayes embody all the stereotypes of Hollywood, which adds a few comedic moments.\nThis film follows the romantic comedy formula to a tee, but what makes it slightly stand out is how Luketic structures the film. Usually with a plotline containing a love triangle, the handsome, rich character is often pitted as a jerk. Duhamel's character fits this profile, but he is making a concerted effort to change his ill ways. It's gray areas such as these that give audiences the refreshing opportunity to question which guy to root for and wonder who Bosworth's character will end up with. Such charm and sincerity isn't lost upon these protagonists nor the audience.
