Cute Brit only thing 'Goode' about 'Liberty'

Walking into the theater I knew that Chasing Liberty was going to be a film I would have enjoyed more when I was 14 with my two best girlfriends. Amongst giggling teenage girls and the latest 15-year-old couplings, I sat back ready to take in the latest of "teeny-bopper" flicks. \nFirst Daughter Anna Foster (Mandy Moore), has become very accustomed to life in the Oval Office, but is inexperienced in the real world. By 18, she has become increasingly aware of the presence of the Secret Service and its impact on her social life. After a disastrous date resulting in Secret Service intervention, Anna negotiates with her parents (Mark Harmon and Caroline Goodall) for some freedom on their upcoming diplomatic trip to Europe. \nAmid the beautiful background of Prague, comes attractive Ben Calder (Matthew Goode), an English bad boy with something to hide. From his first flirtatious look, Ben seems to steal not only Anna's heart but every other girl's in the theater. In Anna's attempt to experience teenage normalcy, she disguises herself and makes a run from the Secret Service with the aid of Ben. \nIn a twisted chain of events, Anna and Ben are led on a wild ride through Europe, keeping one step ahead of Anna's two bodyguards. As they make their way, Anna wonders when she will finally have to tell Ben her secret, but what Anna doesn't know is that Ben has a secret of his own. Adding to all the notions of young love throughout, the filmmakers felt it necessary to include a budding romance between Anna's two bodyguards played by Jeremy Piven (Scary Movie 3) and Anabella Sciorra ("The Sopranos"). This seems to make the film's 121 minutes seem even longer. \nFor its target audience the film does not do a good job of portraying the realities of sex and the emotions that follow. Mandy Moore does well as the naive First Daughter and is definitely better as a brunette, but the character has very little depth. Matthew Goode is the only reason I would consider watching the film again; his sexy accent and sharp features would make any woman swoon. \nChasing Liberty is cute but unless you are taking your 14-year-old girlfriend I would wait for the video.
