U.S. Rep. Baron Hill, D-Ind., will visit with IU School of Education faculty and local teachers and administrators from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. today in the School of Education, Room 2120. He will discuss literacy and language education in primary and secondary schools.\nHill, who is a well-known advocate for public education, has sponsored the Smaller Schools, Stronger Communities Act, which proposes less populous schools. Hill said the act would reduce school violence, improve academic achievement and create a better learning environment for students.\nHill also voted in 2001 for President Bush's No Child Left Behind Act, which instituted a system of educational reform through enforced accountability. Since then, he has reversed his position, saying he is concerned the federal government has not made sufficient funds available to states to enforce the law.\nIf you would like to attend Hill's speech or you need directions to the School of Education, contact Sarah Baumgart at 856-8005, baumgar@indiana.edu, or David Bricker at 856-9035, brickerd@indiana.edu.
