Funksters pepper album with hits

The Red Hot Chili Peppers' Greatest Hits collection was destined to be, at the very least, pretty good. The 16 tracks encompass more than 10 years of the band's work and the CD includes two new songs. \nThe group decided to kick the album off with its epic "Under the Bridge." It seems odd to start the album with what is inarguably the band's biggest hit, but that isn't the only ordering curiosity. More than a few of the CD's transitions between tracks are bumpy, such as moving from "Suck My Kiss" to "By the Way." \nRHCP also skip around through time quite a bit. This isn't an album for hardcore fans, who presumably already own the albums encompassed by the retrospective, because these aren't remastered or rerecorded cuts. In fact, they're the originals in all their scratchy glory. It is perfect, though, for a casual fan. Great for anyone would be the wonderful liner notes with short writings from all group members but Anthony Kiedis. \nIt's nice to know that the members of a great band are still interested in making great music. A personal favorite quote: "We all are very lucky to live in a world where there is this much music," elegantly put by John Frusciante.
