Indiana Jones proved that adventuresome archeologists can make for an interesting lead character. \nAll Lara Croft could prove, though, is that archeology can be drab, even while she's searching the world for a box that unleashes a plague upon the earth while being chased by the bad guys.\nNot that the plot mattered.\nIn fact, there really wasn't much of a discernable plot. Lara Croft would run around in her spandex outfits for a while, spouting supposedly clever dialogue in her cringingly fake British accent. Then the camera would move to a shot of random people sitting around discussing Pandora's Box. The boring and unnecessary dialogue slowed down a movie already plodding along.\nGenerally in action movies, though, the plot doesn't matter -- it's really all about the action. \nUnfortunately, the shoddy use of blue screen, terribly fake computer generated creatures and slow motion action (a la Wachowski brothers) ruined what could have been a decent action-adventure.\nAt least the filmmakers could have included some insightful special features. Instead, they opted for basic commentary, visual effects and scoring, the final insult to an already hideous mess of filmmaking.
