Anyone who claims to be an underground music fan from the mid-'90s until the present is likely to have heard of Sunny Day Real Estate. Whether the association with them is based on their formal connections to the Foo Fighters or with the actual music itself (Sunny Day released the definitive emo album of the '90s, 1994's Diary), these guys will undoubtedly go down as a band to anticipate for years to come. \nThe Fire Theft is three-quarters of Sunny Day: Jeremy Enigk, William Goldsmith and Nate Mendel. \nMusically, The Fire Theft take what Sunny Day were going for with their last album The Rising Tide and move one step further. Think a modern day Pink Floyd after sucking the helium out of a balloon. It's a perfect blend of progressive rock and indie pop, complete with a full orchestra backing, and the results are at times absolutely breathtaking. The Fire Theft pack more emotion and passion into their music than any of the countless bands they influenced without ever becoming too sentimental or hokey. After nearly 10 years of writing and releasing music, Enigk, Goldsmith and Mendel are finally able to fully realize the vision that Sunny Day Real Estate was shooting for with its final release.
