COLUMBUS, Ind. - A police officer fatally shot a 20-year-old man as he advanced toward officers with a knife, police said.\nThe man was identified as Dale Moss of Columbus, Bartholomew County Coroner Larry Fisher said Tuesday.\nOfficers were called Monday night to a home in Columbus on a report that a drunken man was causing a disturbance. The officers reported that when they arrived, the man was holding a knife to his throat.\nMoss approached officers after refusing several orders to drop the knife, police said.\nMoss was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. He died of a single gunshot wound to the neck, Fisher said.\nThe officer who fired the shot, Lt. Brad Latimer, has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation by the Indiana State Police. Latimer is a 16-year veteran of the police force and a former police chief in the city about 40 miles south of Indianapolis.
