Soft Spot is your basic Clem Snide album. There are songs about loss and loneliness, which are intensified with the band's smooth melodies and lead singer, Eef Barzelay's, calming hypnotic voice. Listeners may not comprehend every line on the album, but will always enjoy the precious intricacies that lead them around a focalized point. Barzelay's lyrics create a poetic labyrinth in his music. \nIf a complaint could be found with this album it is that some tracks seem as though they want to burst out and become full-on rockers. There are upbeat, pop-oriented tracks which clearly show the band's talent for hooks, but seem held back. Snide needs to learn that aggression can be a good thing.\nThose familiar with Clem Snide's earlier works won't be too surprised to find it hasn't changed a great deal musically. There are new songs and instruments, but Clem Snide has discovered a laid-back sound that is all its own and knows how to work it. Besides, anyone familiar with the band will return for the world where love conquers all, but sadness is king.
