Rumours are true: Fleetwood Mac's back

('Say You Will' - Fleetwood Mac)

Forget Dr. Dre and Tupac. In the mid-'70s, it was Fleetwood Mac that documented California love after recruiting lovers/singers/\nsongwriters Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham and morphing from a blues band into a pop-rock outfit. Say You Will marks Fleetwood Mac's first studio album with Buckingham, the band's MVP, since 1987's Tango in the Night. Buckingham has been missing since a 1992 solo album and apparently he's got huge backlog, as this album inexplicably rambles on for 18 tracks and over 76 minutes with no sign any time has passed.\n One of the foundations of Fleetwood Mac's L.A. pop aesthetic is incessant knob twiddling, but there is often a fight between on-the-tip production techniques and antiseptic multitracking. Let's call this battle a bloody, ponderous draw. This record is dated, but every last millisecond is VH1-tasteful from Nicks' hardened optimism to Buckingham's high-wire guitar. Buckingham isn't angry like he was on classics like "Go Your Own Way," but he's the definition of studio pro.\nThe drug-fueled animosity between Buckingham and Nicks has turned to mutual respect. It's too bad they've lost their edge. That never happened to Tupac or Dr. Dre.
