The University will honor the 30 year career of Dr. Herman C. Hudson at a memorial service at 1 p.m. today in the Ruth N. Halls Theatre. Few individuals have made a more powerful impact on the academic environment of IU than Hudson, founder of IU's Department of Afro-American Studies and Afro-American Arts Institute. Hudson died Feb. 17 in his home in Southfield, Mich. He had just turned 80.\nWilliam Wiggins, the active chair of the Department of African American and African Diaspora Studies, said in February that the impact of Hudson's death is similar to the deaths of Herman B Wells and Bill Armstrong.\n"This is a major loss for IU and it's a time for us to reflect on the contributions and improvements he made to the University," Wiggins said.\nA reception in the Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center Grand Hall will follow the service.\nFor a more about the memorial service check Friday's IDS or his life see idsnews.com.
