City seeks money for 911 call program

Bloomington is working on improving its wireless 911 calls. An ordinance was approved Wednesday to establish a wireless enhanced 911 non-reverting fund, and to upgrade the Central Emergency Dispatch Center.\nThis ordinance was introduced last week.\nMonroe County has had the technology involved with locating 911 calls from wireless phones and has already spent over $300,000 upgrading its capabilities, which include investments in necessary computer hardware, software, database equipment and personnel training.\nCity Controller Tom Guevara said that the Central Emergency Dispatch Center will receive a one-time reimbursement of $284,576 for expenditures spent on improving the center up to this point.\nThe reimbursed funds will also go to training dispatchers so that they can respond more quickly to 911 calls.\nGuevara said that he is hoping to receive an annual amount of $96,000 for future investments in the Central Emergency Dispatch Center.
