Human bones found in woods

PARAGON, Ind. -- Authorities were trying to identify a set of human bones discovered by a hunter in south-central Indiana.\nA forensic anthropologist and his assistants combed through heavy undergrowth Monday in an isolated area of Morgan County where the remains were found.\nSheriff Robert Garner said the bones were discovered Sunday by a hunter who was scouting the countryside north of Paragon, about 30 miles southwest of Indianapolis, for the upcoming turkey season.\nInvestigators said it could take several days to identify the body.\nHowever, the mother of a 19-year-old Greenwood woman who disappeared last summer arrived at the scene Monday in hopes of learning more about the case.\n"The worst thing for a parent is not knowing where their child is," said Kim Louks, mother of Brookley Louks, who has been missing since June 24, 2002.\nThe hunter first thought he had stumbled across some animal bones. When he found the skull and jawbone, he called police, Garner said.\nThe bones appeared to have been there for some time, and only a few were found. The rest appeared to have been scattered by animals.\nInvestigators so far have found no other items that would help identify the body. "It's one of those tough ones where we didn't see any clothes," Garner said.\nAuthorities hope the anthropologist's team can help determine the person's age and gender and how long the body has been there.
