In conjunction with national elections in Israel, IU's Helene G. Simon Hillel Center is sponsoring a mock Israeli election across campus today. Materials on the Israeli political system, the central issues, the parties and their platforms will be handed out to IU's "voters" at the poll booths.\n"The main goal is to educate the community with the elections in Israel. Our hope is people will take the time to vote and learn as a result of that," said Josh Stein, assistant director of the Hillel Center. "If people take away one thing, it's our hope that they recognize that Israel is a democracy."\nThe mock elections will be held at the Indiana Memorial Union, Foster and Collins from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Students will be present at each station ot hand out ballots. \nStein said Sharon is the favorite to win the Israeli elections and stay as prime minister. \n"The outlook is that Sharon, the current prime minister will stay in power," Stein said. "Even though there was a vote of no confidence, there is sentiment that Sharon is the best leader."\nFor more information, contact Michal Maoz-Levy, Hillel's Israel Programs Coordinator at 336-3824.
