Izzard kills in stand-up show

"Eddie Izzard: Dress to Kill" is a DVD for the open-minded.\nThe fact that Eddie Izzard dresses up in high-heel sandals, vinyl pants and a kimono top and shellacs on a ton of makeup has little to do with his stand-up comedy. He touches on transvestism briefly, then deftly moves on to movies, the Queen of England, religion and sheep.\nHis routine is like one long conversation with an interesting foreigner, and you find yourself focusing more on his British accent and less on what he's wearing. Izzard himself is chock full of European style and charm that envelopes you as his stand-up takes you through two different languages and numerous countries.\nTaped and aired on HBO, the show runs for two hours. Special features include an hour-long routine of "Eddie from Dress to Circle," performed in France and spoken entirely in French, for all of you Euro-wannabe's out there. \nBoth routines have commentary options, but I wouldn't bother with them. Interestingly, though, the commentary for "Dress to Circle" is mostly in English. Of the two commentaries, it's the most engaging. For "Dress to Kill," it's seems like Izzard's just rambling.\nAlso included is a six-minute photo documentary entitled "America 1998," which has a haunting violin soundtrack and some interesting pictures of Eddie in San Francisco.\nAll in all, I'd say buy the DVD. It's something that will hold everyone's attention, and you'll find yourself discussing it long after the show is over.
