Trustees sell courts to fraternity house

The tennis courts at the corner of Jordan Avenue and Law Lane will be razed to make room for a brand new Kappa Sigma fraternity house. \nThe board of trustees endorsed the sale of the property to Kappa Sigma at the Sept. 20 meeting, with the understanding that a new fraternity house would be built on the site. \nNews of the deal surprised tennis players over the weekend.\n"There aren't enough tennis courts around as it is, so I'm sure a lot of people will miss it," said Jacques Theodas, who plays recreationally at the courts.\nClub Tennis meets at the courts four days a week. Josh Perry, one of 25 members, said he doesn't know where the club will play once the courts are gone.\n"It's nice having these courts centrally located," Perry said. \nAs part of the deal, Kappa Sigma has agreed to pay for their relocation. The new tennis courts site has yet to be determined. \nBefore the sale is completed, state-appointed appraisers will determine the value of the property.\nFraternity president Mark Leeman was thrilled that the trustees gave the sale the go-ahead.\n"This means a lot for Kappa Sigma," Leeman said. "We feel we could be more successful if we had more numbers,To get more numbers, we need more space."\nWayne Overturf, president of the Beta Theta chapter of Kappa Sigma Inc., said the new house will be able to accommodate nearly 100 people. The Beta Theta chapter of Kappa Sigma Inc. owns the house. \n"The old house is in terrible disrepair, and the technology is extremely old," Overturf said. "The new one will be the most modern house on campus."\nLeeman said he didn't expect any of the current members to ever live in the house.\n"It's going to be a very lengthy project," said trustee Peter Obremskey.\nObremskey said Kappa Sigma was the only fraternity to show interest in the site. \n"It's one of the only sites left on Frat Row, if not the only site"
