No matter where in the world, no matter what the situation, a Hoosier's somehow involved. We learn that lesson every day. \nUnfortunately, Sept. 11, 2001, was no exception. Three IU students lost their fathers, and others we knew also died in New York, Washington and the fields outside Pittsburgh. \nWe remember those losses today. Their names make up the cover of our special section inside this issue. \nBut today, we also remember the acts of heroism. We remember the IU grads tending to wounded men and women amid the billowing dust that was the World Trade Center. We recall the IU students who worked miles from the Pentagon when a plane crashed into its walls. We remember the simple acts of giving and caring, as the University joined together to cope at Showalter Fountain. \nFor all the bad that came with Sept. 11, 2001, much good followed. The American spirit prevailed in the hearts and minds of everyone as words like family and love, again meant something. As students, we were forced to grow up. \nOur world has changed. Today, we sit at the edge of a new age, where borders are transparent and enemies are everywhere and nowhere at the same time. We go on living the same life we did before Sept. 11, but our focus has blurred. Nothing is clear anymore, including how we should feel today. Inside, our special section offers light. It's up to you to find the way.
