You might have noticed the shiny new Corvette being displayed in Dunn Meadow was nowhere to be found this weekend. IU Student Association members are taking precautions to make sure nothing happens to the $50,000 vehicle that will be raffled off to an IU student in November.\nDuring the week, the Corvette sits under tight security in the southwest corner of Dunn Meadow.\nBut on the weekends, the Corvette, which will remain on display until after the Nov. 5 elections, is moved to another location.\nIUSA won't say where.\nIUSA vice president Judd Arnold said moving the vehicle is a necessary precaution.\n"This is a very expensive automobile," he said. "We want to make sure that whoever is fortunate to win the car gets it in top condition."\nArnold said he was not concerned about vandalism that might result from the location of the car which is near downtown hot spots.\nDuring the weekdays the car sits within a security system consisting of a chainlink fence, barbed wire and security cameras that watch a four-block radius around the vehicle. In addition to these security measures, the Bloomington Police Department has been notified and is patrolling the area, according to IUSA vice president Judd Arnold. \nIUSA president Bill Gray said the main reason for moving the vehicle is so it can be cleaned. Gray also mentioned that moving the vehicle would help to "avoid any bar traffic" it might encounter in its present location. But Gray insisted the weekend relocation is less about security and more about maintence.\nSgt. Tim Lewis of the IU Police Department said he was not sure why the vehicle was being moved. "All I know is that we're giving extra patrols around the area," Lewis said. He also said patrols are not reduced on the weekends, when the car will apparently not be there.\nArnold would not give details on the cost of the security system but said it was part of the $61,000 total being spent on the car and the two $5,000 scholarships that are part of the auction.
