Surprisingly, gender comedy isn't a drag

Sorority Boys - R\nStarring: Barry Watson, Harland Williams, Michael Rosenbaum\nDirected by: Wally Wolodarsky\nShowing: Showplace East 11\nBeing a woman isn't easy. It's especially difficult for college frat boys lacking any understanding of what it means to be a woman. "Sorority Boys" encompasses the hilarity of guys trying to pull off womanhood while also sending a commendable message for gender equality.\n"Sorority Boys" opens with the typical interpretation of the college greek scene, a frat house party full of beer, skanky girls, horny guys and more beer. After the first five minutes the audience realizes several things about the three main characters: Dave (Barry Watson) is looking for love beyond the party chicks, Adam (Michael Rosenbaum) follows his eager penis anywhere and Doofer (Harland Williams) does little more than guzzle beer and smoke pot. When the Delta Omicron Gamma (or D.O.G.) sorority announces free room and board for new pledges, the boys decide to pose as women while figuring out a way to prove their innocence in an embezzlement fiasco.\nBarry Watson is actually quite convincing as "Daisy," unlike costar Harland Williams whose counterpart "Roberta" couldn't be less attractive. Michael Rosenbaum's portrayal of "Adina" is incredibly funny -- he obsesses about his large butt and inability to be "pretty." All three actors give humorous performances, but "Half Baked" star Williams completes the movie with his stellar ability to be hilariously indecent.\nThe movie has the same teen-comedy feel as movies such as "Road Trip" and "American Pie," although it might not be as well-scripted and uncanny. Like all teen comedies, some of the humor is gross and hypersexualized. However, the movie isn't as gut-wrenching as previous comedies like "Scary Movie" and also ends with the characters gaining valuable knowledge and a new appreciation for women. \nIf you're a fan of slightly crass yet endearing teen movies, I highly recommend viewing "Sorority Boys." It's funny, entertaining and worth the ticket cost just to see Harland Williams in a red wig and dress.\n
