Rapper's album won't get him very high

There is only one word which can be used to describe Afroman's third release, The Good Times: awful. The album is 11 tracks of sex, drugs, alcohol and misogyny, with not one useful lyric to save it from mediocrity.\nWhile the album's first single, "Because I Got High" has found heavy rotation on radio stations throughout the United States, the album offers no other viable tracks to warrant its purchase. Songs like "Crazy Rap" and "Let's All Get Drunk" are obvious throwbacks to Afroman's biggest influence, 2 Live Crew, which he cites proudly. The same horrid lyrics that made 2 Live Crew hip for a few minutes all those years ago, will also help to solidify Afroman with his 15 minutes of fame.\nBut after being the party staple this fall, "Because I Got High" will fall into mock-only obscurity with other rap "hits" like "Baby Got Back" and "O.P.P." Hopefully, the success of "Because I Got High," won't warrant a second release off this record because there is nothing left to offer. \nOn another note, the track "Tall Cans" does sound strikingly similar to the Quad City DJ's "Come on Ride the Train." A little too similar, which shows just how far rap music has come in the last five years.\nThe only bright spot from Afroman at this point is his inclusion of Jay and Silent Bob in his video for "Because I Got High" (the song appears on the soundtrack for the film "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back"). It was an intelligent marketing ploy by Afroman: include two stoners in your video for your song about pot. (What, Cheech and Chong weren't available?) But that small feat of brilliance doesn't make up for the dreadful nature of his album. Do not buy this record.
