Man rescued after falling off bridge into swollen creek

Rescuers responded to a call around 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon to save Bloomington resident Greg Bowles who had fallen into a creek off of a bridge behind Night Moves night club located at 1730 S. Walnut St. \nWitnesses say Bowles must have floated down to where rescuers found him in the creek hanging onto a tree limb behind the offices of The Herald-Times, located at 1900 S. Walnut St. Police say Bowles was with a friend, Robert Michaels, when he fell off the bridge.\n"I just heard on the dispatcher that some guy fell in over at Night Moves," said Larry Shute, facility manager at The Herald-Times. "They told me to get a rope and try to get him out. They came and got me and I called 911."\n"When we found him, he was hanging on a limb," said Bloomington Fire Dept. Sgt. Anthony Eads. "We all just grabbed hands and worked our way out." \nEads went on to say that Bowles was intoxicated when he fell into the water.\n"After we got down there to him, it didn't take but a second or two to grab him and pull him out," said Scott Sargent, one of many rescuers on hand.\nAuthorities say although Bowles was intoxicated, it is unlikely he'll be charged. Bloomington Hospital would not release information regarding his status.
