Basketball win celebrations should not be destructive

It\'s been a great post-season for the IU basketball teams. And now the men's team is preparing for the Final Four. Hoosier fans are vigorously supporting and celebrating the team's success. All that's great. However, some fans have taken their celebration into the destructive zone by destroying trees on campus and on Kirkwood and dumping trash into Jordan River in Dunn Meadow. I hope all fans will continue to support the men as they play in Atlanta with the Hoosier pride and integrity that are hallmarks of IU basketball. Winning (or losing) a basketball game is no excuse to lose control to the detriment of either your academic future or the surroundings that make IU and Bloomington great places to live and study. I encourage everyone to show that IU students are head and shoulders above those Michigan State and Purdue students who lost control and damaged the property and reputation of their schools following recent Final Fours. The media are watching closely. Show them the best of what it means to be a Hoosier!
