Super Troopers - R\nStarring: Jay Chandrasekhar, Steve Lemme\nDirected by: Jay Chandrasekhar\nShowing: Showplace West 12\nEight years is a long time. It's an especially long time for die-hard "Police Academy" fans who have been craving more whacky cop comedies since "Police Academy 7: Mission to Moscow." Despite this fact "Super Troopers" doesn't boast Steve Guttenberg or Michael Winslow in its cast, "Super Troopers" is better than any "Police Academy" sequel, and is definitely more clever than the original cop folly flick. It's also the best comedy to hit the silver screen in months. \n"Super Troopers" is a story about five Vermont highway patrol officers whose wild, hilarious and lazy antics have given their station a reputation for being one of the worst in the state. Eventually, threats of shutting down the unit arise, so the highway patrol officers decide to try and crack a big case to save their pigskins. But, the cops can't seem to resist the temptation of messing with people and with each other.\nMany of the jokes in "Troopers" stem from cops playing with people's heads. Most people have been pulled over before, and this makes it easier to relate to the flick. "Troopers" also takes stabs at the rivalries between state troopers and city cops. \nTrue comedies have been thin lately. The fat-hyped "Shallow Hal" wasn't really as funny as we hoped, and since the "American Pie" and "Scary Movie" sequels, we've been stuck with "Corky Romano," "Zoolander" and "Rat Race" to balance out the drama-filled box office. Only "The Royal Tenenbaums" has shown an ounce of original humor, and it really wasn't a true comedy due to its more dramatic elements.\n"Super Troopers" has finally given us something to laugh at. Not only is it funny, but it's a break from the Farrelly brothers, Zucker brothers and Monty-Python wanna-be comedies that have ruled movie theater screens for the past few years. "Troopers" also refrains from hitting below the belt with gross and disgusting jokes. \n"Super Troopers" is the first big movie from the Broken Lizard comedy troup. If they get better with each movie, then we have a lot to look forward to from Broken Lizard in the future.\nClever and funny, "Super Troopers" is definitely the best comedy of the year, so far. But it only holds the best comedy title because everything else has been lame.
