Campaigning for IU Student Association Elections began Monday, and tickets are already announcing their candidacy. \nCurrent Vice President of Administration Jeff Wuslich has helped form the Steel ticket. Wuslich, a sophomore, is running for student body president. The rest of the executive ticket is made up of sophomore Casey Cox running for VPA, Brooke Lang, a junior, for vice president of congress, and senior Ilia Smith as student body treasurer. \nCox is currently an IUSA off-campus senator. Smith is senator from Willkie, while also serving as president of Willkie in the Residence Hall Association. Lang has served in congress in the past and is the current director of IUSA student involvement. \n"Our ticket has a lot to give to the students," Wuslich said. "We have good leadership and good experience."\nWuslich said he has learned a lot from his experience as VPA this past year and wants to continue with the projects and goals of the current administration. \n"He's done a great job as VPA currently," Cox said, "and I want to continue with that."\nCox said the name'Steel' was chosen to represent the strong leadership of the ticket. \nThe candidates are breaking their campaign into four parts: strength, support, scrutiny and student rights. Besides stressing experience and leadership skills, Steel plans to concentrate on such issues as life in the residence halls, the alcohol policy, the bus plan and the judicial system.\n"The alcohol policy is trying to regulate human behavior," Wuslich said. "That is almost impossible to do."\nCox stressed the need to represent civil liberties regarding the alcohol issue. He said he felt the administration was stereotyping certain groups of students, namely fraternity and sorority houses. \nLang hopes to revitalize the position of VPC, especially in light of the recent proposal to eliminate the position. She also wants to explore the question of "how we can make the bridge between student groups and IUSA more effective."\nLang also stressed the importance of the student body becoming involved with IUSA. \n"I love election time," Lang said. "I love campaigning. It's a great time to get students involved." \nThough the candidates are beginning to become involved with campaigning and the election process, they still have responsibilities as current IUSA members.\n"I will make sure that all of the directors along with myself work hard to complete all of the current administration's goals," Wuslich said.\nThe candidates said their relationships as friends and colleagues was one of the strengths of their ticket.\n"There's a cohesiveness among the executives and the congress," Wuslich said. "And I think we'll work well together."\nWuslich said they presently have around 45 of their 72 congressional positions filled. \n"Without each part of the puzzle, the campaign won't be able to go anywhere," Cox said.\nWuslich summed up the ticket's message by stressing its commitment to IU.\n"We love IU, and we want to make it a better place," Wuslich said. "We can get the job done"
