Dalai Lama returning to Bloomington campus

Lama and sister to hold events for children and townspeople

His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, will be returning to Bloomington and the IU campus April 13 for a visit that will include a dedication ceremony for a new temple and an address at Assembly Hall, representatives from the Tibetan Culture Center said. \nThe Dalai Lama will first participate in events at the center to dedicate the Chamtse Ling, an interfaith temple whose mission is to promote harmony and peace.\nIn addition to the dedication ceremony, the Dalai Lama's sister, Jetsun Pema, will hold a program for children at the center entitled "How to Find Peaceful Solutions to Conflicts." During the event, children from various cultures in Bloomington will personally interact with Pema, who is also the president of the Tibetan Children's Village in India.\nThe Dalai Lama will also be delivering a public address at 4 p.m. April 13 at Assembly Hall, entitled "Finding Inner Peace in Today's World."\nThe trip to Bloomington will be the Dalai Lama's fourth visit here. He first came in 1987 to dedicate a monument to Tibetan refugees. He returned in 1996 to participate in the Chamtse Ling building kickoff and came again in 1999 to facilitate the 12-day Kalachakra initiation for world peace.\nTickets for the address will go on sale this Friday. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased through Ticketmaster at 333-9955 or through the Assembly Hall box office.\nTickets for the dedication ceremony and youth program at the Tibetan Cultural Center are $30 and can only be obtained through the center. There are a limited number of tickets available, so tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis. They can be purchased by sending a stamped, self-addressed envelope to the Tibetan Cultural Center, P.O. Box 2581, Bloomington, IN 47402.
