Complaints and Grievances\nGeorge Carlin\nAtlantic Recording Corporation\nGeorge Carlin is the father, now grandfather, of the complaining, tell-it-like-it-is comedics. He basically just stands up before an audience to bitch and complain about everything that is annoying him. After hearing him insult people who wear visors and gun enthusiasts once, you will laugh, but hearing it over and over again you will grow tired of the moaning.\nThe new Carlin comedy album Complaints and Grievances is a live recording of his latest stand-up special on HBO. If you saw the special, there is no need to hear the CD because it's the same thing. Now it's funny because what Carlin says is usually right on the mark, but the truth is, it's only funny once. Some comedy albums you can listen to again and again by yourself or with a group of friends. You cannot do that with this CD.\nMany of Carlin's complaints are about people he wish would be shot, or as he says, "People who should be smashed in the face repeatedly with mining equipment." These include singers with one name, people who use credit cards for small purchases and guys named Todd. The segment about people with soft names like Todd and Cody is probably the funniest on the CD, and you wonder just how many people in the audience have these "soft" names but are still laughing so no one will know.\nSpeaking of the audience, they are the worst part of the album. Since Carlin usually just tells the truth, many times you will just think to yourself, "Man, he's right on." The audience thinks this as well, but they show it by clapping and cheering after every line. There is laughing, sometimes, but the majority of the time the audience is whooping and hollering. How many times have you listened to a CD or watched TV, and after someone says something funny you stand up in your living room and clap? This does not happen, but it does in a live audience, for which Carlin is way better suited.\nBasically, the CD is not a worthy buy but is funny. Either borrow it from a friend, watch a repeat of the HBO special or get tickets to his next live show. These options are way better than buying this.\n
