The One," which should have been titled "Jet Li vs. Jet Li," lacks every element a good action/sci-fi movie should have. For starters, it lacks a plot. Next, it has an undeveloped love story that is supposed to leave us feeling all warm and tingly inside at the end of the movie. \n While Jet Li does kick some serious butt in the movie, I found myself searching for a steady plot more than anything. During the first 20 minutes I didn't have much of a clue as to what was going on. \nOnce I finally figured out what was happening between all the parallel universes, which are called "multi-verses," the movie began what the director would probably like to consider the love story part. This "love story" is never developed, and yet is what helps give the end of the movie that feel good feeling. (Besides the feel good feeling you get because you're so happy it's over.) \nJet Li stars as Gabe Law and enemy (fill in the blank) Yulaw. His first name changes in each different universe. Oops, I mean multiverse. Agents chase Yulaw through these different multiverses and the viewers are never fully brought up to speed as to why they are chasing him, yet the agents aren't allowed to kill him, and if they do kill him, they have to kill Gabe because one of the multiverses might explode or -- never mind. Believe me when I say there isn't much of a need to mention any other characters when Jet Li is the only one always on the screen. Two of him to be exact.\nYou can't compare this to "The Matrix" unless you call it a rip-off -- or maybe it was a parody and we were actually supposed to be laughing? In which case I'd say it's more of a rip-off of "Space Balls." Either way, the best part of the movie was that by the time I figured out what and why everything was going on, the movie was over. The 80-minute-long film seems like a half hour television special on kung fu fighting.
