From E.T. to H.P., John Williams keeps the time

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Soundtrack Composed by John Williams Warner Sunset Records

Being nominated 38 times for an Academy Award and winning four times is no easy task. For composer John Williams, an Oscar nomination is an annual event. Williams is the genius behind the scores for films such as "Jaws," "E.T." and all the "Star Wars" movies. His most recent venture is the soundtrack for the upcoming film "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," and once again Williams has proven how talented he really is.\nBecause this is a Williams soundtrack, it is an all instrumental score with a symphony. This is not a soundtrack filled with bands like Smash Mouth singing cover songs, this is a movie score. You will not be popping this CD into your player when friends come over to party, but you may wind up listening to it while doing some studying. This is as amazing as everything related to the Potter phenomenon.\nThe story behind the books and the upcoming film is about wizardry and witchcraft -- an epic about magic. If the music to the film is any hint to what is in store for the movie, you can tell that this film really will be magic. While listening you can feel the excitement, danger and suspense that Harry's world is filled with. To be able to do this with music is magic itself.\nThe songs list what is happening in the film at the time. Songs such as "The Journey to Hogwarts" make the listener visualize everything that could be happening. The best track on the album is "The Quidditch Match." Quidditch is a fast-paced wizards' sport that involves using broomsticks in midair. This portion of the film has promised to be amazing, and the background music makes for exciting expectations to come as you can visualize Harry diving and swooping for the Golden Snitch. \nThis music might not be for everyone, but it is truly one of the most amazing scores in film history. John Williams produces magic with his composer's wand, and he certainly won't have to dive and swoop to grab the Golden Oscar once again next year, it'll just be handed to him. \nRating: 9
