I am writing in response to the editorial about the problem with toilet papering in the greek system ("Balancing tradition and courtesy," Oct. 17). The fact that I was reading about the effect of a common bathroom amenity on the beauty of our campus and its effect on the environment seemed completely ridiculous. It is appalling to me that an institution of higher learning cannot have a campus newspaper that is capable of offering challenging opinions on today's most pressing topics, but merely on those that are asinine and convenient. \nIt escapes me, how, with so many prevalent issues in today's society, we are talking about toilet papering, the act of throwing a roll of Ultrasoft or dorm style sandpaper into a tree. A multitude of prevalent topics seem to be available in this world and in our IU community that deserve to be the topical centerpieces of college conversations. Instead, we are presented with articles that are no deeper than the two-ply subject matter. I would like to publicly challenge the IDS editorial staff to use their power to bring some of these topics to the forefront of campus attention. It's time the IDS remove their blinders so that they can see beyond North Jordan and Third Street, to realize that there is a larger circle.
Prevalent topics offer deeper discussion than toiletry
