2 men report armed robberies

Police say guns used in hold-ups near Ballantine

Two students reported being robbed at gunpoint near Ballantine Hall on Tuesday night, the IU Police Department said.\nAt 9:30 p.m., a 21-year-old male student reported that he had been robbed of money at gunpoint between Ballantine Hall and the Chemistry Building, IU Police Department Lt. Jerry Minger said.\nAbout 30 minutes later IUPD received a 911 call from a Woodburn Hall pay phone, Minger said. The male caller refused to identify himself but said two men had stopped him on the south side of Woodburn Hall and told him that they wanted his money, Minger said.\nThe suspects were last seen running through the Beck Chapel cemetery. In both instances IUPD officers searched the area but failed to locate the suspects.\nAccording to police, the first victim told officers he was walking southbound on the wooded path between the Chemistry Building and Ballantine Hall when he passed two subjects who were walking slowly. He told police he had been walking about 100 feet when he was suddenly grabbed by the shoulder from behind and spun off the walk.\nHe turned to see that a man had a small silver handgun aimed at him, police said. The subject then told the victim, "Give me your money," to which the victim complied, police said. The two suspects then ran northbound.\nPolice are asking that anyone who believes they may have information concerning this incident to contact the investigation section of IUPD at 855-4111.
