IU's galleries offer art for everyone

The IU campus is full of museums and galleries displaying the work of students, faculty and prominent artists from around the world. All galleries will be open this weekend and welcoming everyone from graduating students to out-of-town visitors. Here's what you will find:

IU Art Museum\nThe three floors of IU's Art Museum feature ancient and modern art from around the world. Entering its final weekend, the special exhibition "A Bloomington Biennial: Faculty Artists from IU's Hope School of Fine Arts" features works from more than 30 IU faculty members.

School of Fine Arts Gallery\nLocated on the first floor of the School of Fine Arts, the SoFA gallery showcases work from IU students. The final of three exhibitions showcasing the work of the school's MFA candidates can be seen this weekend.

Lilly Library\nIU's rare books library has a wealth of resources for researchers but also has exhibits for visitors, including a real Gutenberg Bible. The "Victorian Fiction" exhibition showcases rare early printings of 19th century classics.\nMatrix Gallery\nTucked away on the third floor of the Wright Education Building, this unique gallery exhibits art from local Bloomington schools. Showcased is work from Aurora Alternative High School, featuring the students' photographs, advertising parodies and "anti-trophies."

Mathers Museum \nof World Cultures\nThe Mathers Museum features artifacts and photographs from the world's many cultures. The exhibition showcases world musical instruments. Everything from Javanese gamelan percussion instruments to a 1930s Hammond Organ is on display.
