Printing ad reflects hostile environment

I am very concerned about the publication of David Horowitz's ad. The IDS used poor taste in printing this ad. The reparation debate is out there right now, and everyone is entitled to their opinions. The publication of this article shows where the IDS stands on the issue. The choice of printing the article not only reflects on the IDS, but our entire campus. To say that printing Horowitz's ad is simply expressing one side of the the reparations debate would be a great simplification. By printing the ad, the IDS is supporting a man who claims the Holocaust did not happen, among other things. I don't think this is a good reflection on the University.\nAs disturbing as this ad was, it seems to be just another reflection of the changed political climate concerning race and civil rights since the new administration took the White House. Allegations of voter harassment of African Americans in Florida set the tone for a deepening of the racial divide. Not that this divide didn't exist under previous administrations, but the Bush administration seems to have created a climate in which racism can be ignored, even accepted. The recent shooting of an unarmed black teenager in Cincinnati is yet another example.
