IU Outdoor Day to be held at Bradford Woods

The first IU Outdoor Day will be held Saturday to introduce IU students, faculty and staff with the outdoor recreation activities available at the University's Bradford Woods Outdoor Center near Martinsville.\nThe event will be held from 9a.m. to 5 p.m., and professional instruction will be available in activities including canoeing, rock climbing, kayaking and a high ropes challenge course. The $5 per person fee includes instruction and lunch.\n"With the popularity of such programs as 'Survivor,' we think the recreation programs available at Bradford Woods would interest the campus community," said Doug Knapp, coordinator of outdoor recreation and resource management for the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation in a press release. "This is an opportunity for students, faculty and staff to have an enjoyable and educational day of outdoor recreation where they can have fun getting dirty."\nWorkshop topics include canoeing, water quality/eagle watch, wild edibles/wild flowers, new games, high ropes, hiking, challenge course, eco-adventures, underwater science, sea kayaking, orienteering and job prospects in outdoor recreation.\nBradford Woods is a 2,400-acre outdoor and leadership center operated by the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation.\nFor more information on the program, contact Knapp at 855-3094.
