Construction will limit campus traffic

A large portion of 10th Street will be closed this summer for utility construction work.\nOfficials announced Wednesday that 10th Street will be closed from Woodlawn Avenue to Jordan Avenue May 8, lasting until about August 10.\nA detour using Law Lane and 13th Street will be available to aid traffic.\nThe project involves increasing the size of sewer and water lines and increasing capacity of the storm drain system to reduce flooding during heavy rains, Bloomington Utilities Assistant Engineer Doug Jones said in a press release. Pedestrian traffic along 10th Street during the construction.\nTwo smaller construction projects will also take place this summer:\n• Traffic will be restricted to one lane along 10th Street at the Crosstown Shopping Center between the shopping center and Union Street for three to four weeks this summer. Crosstown Shopping Center will be still be accessible to pedestrians and vehicles but might be limited at times.\n • Construction work at the Kelley School of Business will close Fee Lane from 10th Street to the entrance of the new Fee Lane parking garage. There will be vehicle and pedestrian restrictions during construction.\n Detours will be posted to aid motorists. Kirk White, special assistant for external affairs, said he encouraged motorists to plan ahead.\n "These projects are necessary to replace aging sanitary and storm and sewer lines and increase capacity," White said in a press release. Though we know it will be inconvenient, we are pleased that the scheduling is being handled during the summer to minimize disruption during the normal school year.\n"We encourage motorists to being making alternate plans and to allow extra travel time during the construction period."\nInformation will be posted about the construction on the Parking Operations Web site at www.parking.indiana.edu.\nFor more information on the construction, contact Jones at 349-3634 or White at 855-0921, or visit the parking operations Web site at www.parking.indiana.edu.
