Better fact checking needed at 'IDS', Carr mistaken

I checked the IDS Web page today and found yet another well- researched editorial by the staff. In the article ("SATs: Here to Stay, April 10) Vince Carr was nice enough to supply us with the SAT scores of not only himself, but also a couple of celebrities. \nBut what is that I see? A 1206 for the president and Mr. Carr? A 1573 for Ben Stein? Nice try, but I don't think so. A little more research and fact checking could have told Mr. Carr that SAT scores are reported in multiples of 10. This being the case, the scores that were reported are, well, impossible. Why Mr. Carr lied about his score we can only guess (if you are going to lie at least lie big), but why publish these other phony scores? Does the IDS fact check stories anymore? The answer appears to be no. Perhaps I am being overly picky, or just have too much time on my hands, but I don't think that it is too much to ask to have factual stories printed in the school paper. If the IDS truly wants to be taken seriously as a paper, this problem must be fixed, as this is not the only time factual errors have occurred. But then again, it's just a school paper; what more should we expect?
